What we do
Swift Marine Surveys performs marine surveys on all types and sizes of fiberglass and aluminum boats, including motor boats, sail boats, personal water craft, fishing vessels and pontoon boats.
Based in the GTA, we serve areas throughout the Golden Horseshoe – north to Georgian Bay, south to Lake Erie, west to Wellington County and Waterloo Region, and east to the counties of Peterborough and Northumberland.

Insurance and pre-purchase surveys
Our surveys involve a visual and physical inspection using our experience, skills and the latest technology to determine the quality, structural condition and safety of the vessel. This usually takes about one to two hours.
During the survey, the vessel is typically inspected both in and out of the water for a comprehensive inspection of the boat’s systems and structure, including:
- integrity and moisture levels in the hull, deck, interior and engine compartment
- domestic systems and safety equipment
- levels in the drive, engine and power steering oil
- engine, transmission and keel mounting bolts for tightness
- underwater machinery and propulsion systems
- limited core samples of hull framing and decks, with the owner’s permission
A complete analysis of electrical and mechanical systems requires a certified marine electrical technician and/or marine mechanic.
Detailed inspection reports
After the survey is complete, you'll receive a verbal report, and then a detailed written report with our findings, the estimated fair market value of the vessel and any areas of concern or non-compliance with Transport Canada and A.B.Y.C. standards.
We do our best to have reports to our clients in a timely manner. If there is a specific deadline to meet, please advise at the time of the booking so we can ensure it is met.
All fees must be paid in full to receive the completed survey. Reports are provided directly to the client by email in a secure PDF format. Printed reports are available upon request at an additional cost of $20.
Fees
Surveys are charged at $20 a foot with the manufacturer’s model designation used for the vessel length. Travel fees may apply in addition to the survey rates and will be quoted on a per case basis.
Quotes for sea trails are provided upon request.
